

George was born October 31, 1953, in Springfield, the son of George E. Sr. and Betty Mitchell James. Collette was born on August 24, 1953, in Evanston, IL, the daughter of John and Patricia Joy Flood. George and Collette were married on September 6, 2002, in Springfield.
George graduated from Lanphier High School and was employed with the State Journal Register for twelve years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. George was also an avid Las Vegas Raiders fan.
Collette graduated from Normal Illinois High School in 1971 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She worked as a Mail Handler for the State Journal-Register for 10 years. Collette was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting and playing cards.
Preceding them in death were his and her parents; her adopted mother, Hazel June Flood; her siblings, Robert (Roseann) Flood and Carol (Ron) Lefevre; and his nephew, Jared Larrea.
George and Collette are survived by their daughters, Shawn (Brian) Crabtree of Sycamore, OH, Penney (Ron) Miller of Sherman, IL, and Althea (Tank) Hatfield of Springfield; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; his siblings, Linda Rogers, Michael L. (Brenda) James, Sr., and Madonna (Jaime) Larrea, all of Springfield; her siblings, Caren (Bruce) Melton, Chris Mayes, Thomas (Lindy) Heavisides; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Park.
