

He was born in Springfield, August 5, 1936 the son of George E. and Geraldine Murrell Tinsley Sr. His father and a brother, W. Clarence Tinsley preceded him in death.
George attended Dubois grade school, and graduated from Springfield High School. He attended Springfield Junior College, Lincoln Land Community College, and Maryland University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1958, stationed in Morocco and at Lackland Air Force Base, in Texas.
George was a past master of Central Lodge #3 AF&AM, past president of the Springfield and Fairway Golf Clubs, past board member of the Central Illinois Youth Service, and a past board member of the Senior Citizens of Sangamon County. He was a true fan of all sports and an avid golfer.
He retired in 1991 from the State of Illinois, Department of Mental Health after 33 years of service.
Surviving are his mother, Geraldine, two sons; George E. Tinsley III of Springfield, and James M. (Wife Lynn) Tinsley of South Holland, IL, brother, C. Arthur (wife Joyce) Tinsley, his sister, Elizabeth (husband Steve) Alexander all of Springfield. There are five grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, James II, Adrienne and Bryce, a dear devoted friend and partner, Joann Brown as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 9:30 am until time of funeral services at 10:30 am at St. Paul AME Church 1130 S. 16th St. Springfield, IL with Rev’s Galda McCants and Peggy Senor officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. The Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military honors.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Paul AME Young People Department c/o the church.
