

Glenn was born on July 30, 1929, in Springfield, the son of George E. and Hazel (Hull) Allison.
He was a 1948 graduate of Lanphier High School. Glenn joined the 106th Cavalry of the Illinois National Guard while in high school and served on active duty in Army Intelligence in the Far East Command during the Korean War. He always had a strong work ethic and delivered milk and newspapers, and pumped gas while still in elementary school. During his high school years, Glenn worked at the St. Nicholas Hotel and Walgreens Drug Store. Upon discharge from the Army, he was the sales manager at Smith Drug Company and later the Director of Purchasing at Memorial Medical Center.
Glenn married Dolores Kaufman in 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springfield. Together they had five children. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel; brother, George Jr.; his beloved wife Dolores; an infant son, James; daughter, Mary Kay; grandson, Blake, and stepfather, Elmer Alkire.
Glenn is survived by his sons, Michael (Karen) Allison of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, and Stephen (Cindy) Allison of Dawson; daughter, Sharon (David) Jones of Pawnee; and grandchildren, Steve, Josh, Beth, Shannon, Eric, Bryce, Kyle, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Scarlett, and Charlie.
He was a volunteer firefighter and trustee for 32 years with the Sherman Fire Department. Glenn also volunteered for 30 years as a Red Coat at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He served for 15 years as a docent at the Illinois Military Museum and was a faithful blood donor who donated 25 gallons of blood to the Blood Bank in Springfield.
Volunteerism remained an important part of his life. Glenn was given a commendation from the Sherman Fire Department for his commitment to the district for 32 years of service. In 2014, he received the Distinguished Volunteer Award sponsored by University of Illinois-Springfield and the Junior League of Springfield. In 2016, Senior Services presented Glenn with the “Heart and Soul – Miles Byers Award”. In 2019, he was the recipient of the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service given by the office of the Governor. Glenn also received the Americanism Award from the American Legion Post #32 of Springfield. As a veteran, Glenn was formally recognized for proudly flying the American Flag every day.
Glenn, Dolores, and their family were devoted members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sherman since 1965 and served their church community in countless ways.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 902 St. John Dr., Sherman, IL, with Rev. George Nellikunnel, S.A.C., celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
