

Harold Walker, 80, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Springfield, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at home. Harold was born August 29, 1922 in Springfield the son of Fred M. and Emma Kikendall Walker. He married Margaret Elizabeth Harmon December 12, 1942 in Hammond, IN; she preceded him in death April 26, 1979. He then married Mary Ann Galloway in 1981; she preceded him in death in 2002. Mr. Walker was employed by Picker X-Ray Company for 28 years. He retired as Executive Director of The American Red Cross of Sangamon County in 1986. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He was a member of Rotary International and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also a member of Cedar Creek Golf Club and St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken, SC. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Ruth Davidson and Elaine Getzinger and one brother: Robert Walker. He is survived by two daughters: Carolynne (husband, Stephen, MD) Cook of Springfield and Rev. Allynn Walker (husband, Rev. David Blackburn) of Alton; two stepsons: Curt (wife, Dawn) Galloway of Minneapolis, MN and Steve (wife, Diane) Galloway of Chatham; two grandchildren: Stephen Cook of Birmingham, AL, Laura (husband, Joseph) Rock of Springfield; eleven great grandchildren; one brother: Kenneth (wife, Lois) Walker of Pittsburgh, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday March 23, 2003. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003 at Jerome United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Illinois c/o Visiting Nurses Association of Central Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 623702-9914.
