Harvey S. Rothschild passed away peacefully surrounded with his son, Brent, and Brent’s wife, Renee, at their home. He was born on the first night of Passover Seder on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, on March 30, 1934, to Jake and Bessie Rothschild. Harvey passed away on the second day of Passover 92 years later, on April 3, 2026.
Harvey was drafted by the Army during the Korean conflict, where he served at a field hospital in Germany.
He carried forward the values of hard work, loyalty, and compassion that guided him throughout his life and his 45-year career with ZEP manufacturing.
A lifelong member of Temple B’rith Sholom, Harvey was deeply committed to his faith. He was a proud 33 Mason with the Shriners and a member of B’nai B’rith.
Harvey was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Delores Rothschild; a son, Gregory Rothschild; sisters, Frieda Lesorgan and Jeanette Malina; and brothers, Nathan, Harry, and Jules Rothschild.
He is survived by his devoted children, Brent (Renee) Rothschild of Springfield and Ava (Waqar) Jung of Tallahassee, Florida; a son, Jourdan (Lisa) Rothschild of Springfield; and cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Shandar) Persinger of California, Megan (James) Mulford of Savannah, Georgia, and Serena Rothschild of Ohio.
Harvey’s legacy continues through his beloved great-grandchildren, Lilith Penelope Ros Shuff, Freya Elizabeth Shea Shuff, and Cordelia James Mulford, all of Savannah, Georgia, who affectionately called him Poppy; as well as a great-granddaughter, Alexis Humphreys of Ohio.
His life reflected dedication, perseverance, and a deep respect for Jewish tradition and faith.
Brent and his sister, Ava, wish to extend their sincere gratitude to Harvey’s hospice nurse, Melissa Harper and his hospice social worker, Charlotte Gallagher, both with Memorial Hospice Care, and all his Visiting Angels, for their tenderness, compassion, and exceptional care.
A special and heartfelt thank you is given to Dr. Gary Rull of the SIU School of Medicine, who served as Harvey’s trusted general practitioner for over 25 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to charity organizations dear to his heart: Shriners Hospital for Children, Temple B’rith Sholom Building Fund, Springfield Jewish Federation, Temple B’rith Sholom Hadassah, or Temple B’rith Sholom Sisterhood, in Harvey’s memory.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Brith Sholom, 1004-1008 South 4th Street, Springfield, Illinois, followed by Graveside Services at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
