Helen T. O'Brien

Helen T. O'Brien, 93, of Springfield, passed away at 6:23 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Helen was born on February 10, 1919 in Illiopolis, the daughter of John Thomas and Theresa Cerny Blair. She married James Patrick O'Brien on April 24, 1948 in Illiopolis. He preceded her in death. Helen was a life time member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was also a member of the Samaritans of St. John's, the YMCA, Illinois Farm Bureau, and the Over 55 Club. She is survived by her two sons, John P. (wife, Linda) O'Brien of Springfield and Greg J. (wife, Mary B.) O'Brien of Park Ridge, IL; daughter, Colleen A. (husband, James Richard) Atwood of Brighton, MI; twelve grandchildren, Sean (wife, Lisa) O'Brien of Morton Grove, IL, Erin (husband, Brent) Eggleston of Chatham, Moreen (husband, Jacob) Lusk of Springfield, Kevin O'Brien of Springfield, Brian J. Atwood of Chicago, Elizabeth A. Atwood of East Lansing, MI, Greg T (partner, Kevin Hughes) O'Brien of Venice, CA, Justin (wife, Michelle) O'Brien of Clive, IA, Kyle (wife, Lindsey) O'Brien of Park Ridge, IL, Josh O'Brien of Chicago, Michael (wife, Kathryn) O'Brien of Minneapolis, MN, and Stephen O'Brien of Park Ridge, IL; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Svetlik of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield with Rev. Peter Harmon, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
