He was born on July 21, 1939 in Waverly, IL, the son of the late Joseph and Doris (Pitchford) Fitzpatrick, Sr. He married Carole Jensen on August 9, 1969 in Athens, IL and she survives.
Mr. Fitzpatrick served in the U.S. Army. He was a teacher and guidance counselor for Springfield School District 186 for many years.
Besides his wife Carole, he is survived by his daughter Lisa (husband Gerard) Martin of Burr Ridge, IL; his son John Fitzpatrick of Pekin, IL; a granddaughter Katie Martin; 9 siblings, Donna (husband Roy) Coppenbarger of Bloomington, IL, Dale (wife Peggy) Fitzpatrick of Effingham, IL, Jerry Fitzpatrick of Waverly, IL, Jim (wife Sue) Fitzpatrick of Wickenburg, AZ, Peggy (husband Rick) Long of Pittsboro, IN, Kathy (husband Fred) Norman of Springfield, Marilyn Fitzpatrick of Pawnee, IL, Willie (wife Debbie) Fitzpatrick of Alva, OK, and Michele (husband Mike) Thompson of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Michael Fitzpatrick and Joe Fitzpatrick; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Fitzpatrick and Wilma Fitzpatrick.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A graveside memorial service will take place at a later date at Old Salem Cemetery, Springfield.
