Hilda was born in Mt. Vernon, IL, April 25, 1926 the daughter of Roy F. and Carrie H. (Harrison) Rollman. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, her Master of Science from Sangamon State University, now University of Illinois at Springfield, and her Registered Nurse Certification from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield. Education was important to her. One of her proudest moments was earning her Master’s degree at the same time her son earned his Bachelor’s degree.
Hilda continued her passion for helping others through her nursing career, serving as the Director of Nursing for Springfield School District 186. She retired in 1983 after many years of service. After her retirement, she continued her involvement with her fellow educator and associates as a member of Teacher’s Retirement groups, an active alumni of the St. John’s School of Nursing, and various social events with her peers. She served as a Docent for the University of Illinois Sangamon Auditorium, and was an accomplished member of the Springfield Ceramics' and Craft Club. Her specialty was design and painting ceramic creations. She was a member of the United Methodist faith community for many years.
Hilda married Jesse C. “J.C.” Blair June 18, 1950 and he preceded her in death June 4, 1980. Her parents, her five brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her son, Daniel (wife Gayle) Blair of Springfield, her grandchildren: Colin Blair, Caitlin (husband Brian) Boatman both of Springfield, and McKenna (husband Andrew) Blair-Severns of Sherman, IL. She has two great grandsons; Cole and Griffin Boatman.
The Blair family will greet family and friends at the Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703 on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 2:00 pm until the time of a funeral service there at 3:00 pm. Pastor Mary Ellen Sharp will officiate. Private family internment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Monday, July 31, 2023.
