

Imogene "Jeanne" Meeks, 92, passed away on July 11, 2016 at 1:45 p.m. at St. John's Hospital. Jeanne was born July 25, 1923, the daughter of John and Dozie Meeks. She was the youngest of fifteen children. She was preceded in death by her parents; and all of her siblings, Bill Meeks (wife, Minnie), Tom Meeks (wife, Josephine), Sutton Meeks (wife, Hallie), Edward Meeks (died as an infant), Henry Meeks (died as an infant), Hattie (husband, Harry) Kopkman, Mattie (husband, Bill) Paparatta, Pearl (husband, Vince) Stoekle, Louise (husband, Ray) Bright, Patsy (husband, George) Brockwell, Marietta (husband, Al) Drysdale, Synthia (husband, Harold) Horrom, John Meeks (wife, Erma), and Juanita (husband, Ed) Adcock. In addition, two other children, a niece and a nephew, Ruby and Charlie were adopted following the tragic deaths of their parents. Jeanne was born in Belleville, Illinois. The family moved to Springfield several years later where Jeanne attended grade school and graduated from Feitshans High School. She attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Jeanne began her working career with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. She then transferred to the Clerk of Supreme Court's office, and retired after a noteworthy career as Director of the Fiscal Division, a part of the Administration Office of the Supreme Court. The Fiscal Division is responsible for all expenditures of the Court System of Illinois. Jeanne never married but had a host of friends, both personal and professional. One of the things she liked to do was travel which took her to Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Although Jeanne loved to travel, she was more consumed with her position in the Court System. She took real pride in the fact that each time audited, she received a "no recommendation" report showing her perfectionism and the accuracy of her work. Jeanne was a lover of animals, especially dogs. She loved children and had no strangers in her life. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at a later date and the notice will appear in the State Journal Register.
