Irving Eugene "Gene" Dodson

Gene was born on March 14, 1932 in Petersburg, IL, the son of the late Harry and Catherine Mae (O’Hara) Dodson. He married Rose Gourley at St. Patrick’s Church in Springfield on July 2, 1955 and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2007.

Gene graduated from Petersburg High School and attended Lincoln Land College. He worked for Ideal Industry in Petersburg, IL for 19 years and for the Illinois Department of Revenue for 28 years, retiring on March 31, 1998. Gene loved Jazz music. He was very generous, donating to numerous charities. He also liked to go to the gambling boat but his passion was going to the OTB to bet on the ponies.

He will be missed by many close and loving friends. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Rose; his parents, Harry and Catherine; and two brothers, William Dale and Donald Dodson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where a memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Montgomery County Cancer Association (MCCA), 19 Circle Dr., Litchfield, IL 62056.
