Jake Anthony Elston, age 11, of Springfield, IL, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2018 at his home due to complications from Sanfilippo Syndrome. He was lovingly surrounded by his family when he earned his wings. He attended Lee Elementary School, where he was blessed to be loved by the teachers and entire staff. Jake is survived by his parents, Jack and Tara Elston of Springfield; his sister, Hannah; his brother, Luke; his maternal grandparents, Mark and Barbara Wagner of Springfield; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved and treasured him dearly. Jake was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Barbara Elston of Rochester. Jake loved Dora the Explorer, running outdoors, playing with his brother and sister, McDonalds, Mel-O-Cream, his blanket and stuffed monkey, but most of all, he loved someone taking the time to sit down and hold his hand. His laugh was infectious and his friendship unwavering. Jake taught us all about love, patience, and kindness. He had a special gift of touching the hearts of everyone he met. We would like to thank the amazing group of doctors, nurses, teachers, attendants, caretakers, friends and family that supported Jake and our family along the way. Every single one of you made an impact on our family and we will never forget how important you were in Jakes journey. A special thank you to Dr. Dolan, Dr. Miner, and Jakes nurses, Cathy, Audrey, and Shelley. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. A Memorial Gathering will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a Funeral Mass taking place immediately at 12:00 p.m. Both will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield, IL 62702 with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Jake be made to SPARC Kamp Kaleidoscope, 232 Bruns Lane, Springfield, IL 62702; Springfield Public Schools Foundation, 1900 West Monroe, Springfield, IL 62704; or National MPS Society, P.O.
