James Harrison Cherry III, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Monday April 2, 2018 at Heritage Hospice in Springfield. He was born on February 18, 1944 in Olney, IL., to James Harrison Cherry II and Dorris Price. He married Nancy Tuggle on June 11, 1967 in Walnut, IL., and she survives.
Mr. Cherry is also survived by one daughter Michelle (Robert) Brown of Grayslake, IL., one son James Harrison (Lori) Cherry IV of Hamel, IL., three grandchildren: Tyler Brown and Logan and Dylan Cherry, one sister Harriet (Ray) Mahannah of Champaign.
Jim earned his bachelor, masters and doctorate (Ed.D) from Illinois State University. He held many positions in education including Assistant Principal of University High in Normal, Superintendent of School in Paris, IL., Business Manager of Springfield District 186, Business Manager in Park Ridge, IL., then chairman of the Educational Administration Department at the University of Illinois Springfield. He retired in 2003 and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
