James Milton Daniels, Sr.

James Milton Daniels, Sr., 71, of Springfield, died at 4:00 a.m. on February 17, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Unit. He was born on March 23, 1935 in Venice, IL, the son of Lorraine Milton and Laura May Gowan Daniels. He married Carolyn Bowling in 1958. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era. He worked in the Licensing and Regulation Department of the Secretary of State from 1964 until his retirement in 2004. He was very active in the Democratic Party and supported the American Legion. He very active in the American Legion Post 32 and 40 & 8 Club serving both state and local offices. James enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Salisbury and he also like to refinish furniture in his spare time. James was a generous, gregarious man who never met a stranger and was extremely proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his sister: Jeannie Spiroff. He is survived by one son: James Milton (fiancée, Kate Schnell, J.D.) Daniels, Jr., M.D. of Quincy; three daughters: Mary Ann (husband, Tim, Sr.) Johnson, of Springfield, Kate (husband, Brad) Martin of Ashland and Ann Daniels of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Tim Johnson, Jr., Jamie Johnson, Jason Johnson, Toby Daniels, Maggie Daniels, Lizzie Daniels, Shane Sullivan and Elijah Martin; one sister: Patricia Lepp of Imperial, MO; one niece: Stacey Kwiatkowski and three nephews: Christopher Spiroff, Stephen Spiroff and Dominic Spiroff. Cremation accorded by Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The family welcomes friends to visit for a Memorial Gathering from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
