Jim married Charlotte Hamilton on June 17, 1956 in Annapolis, IL and she survives.
Also surviving are his three children: daughter, Sharon (Bob) Stailey of Virginia Beach, VA; sons David (Mary) of Springfield, IL and Mark (Janet) of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren: Alisha (Matt) Henry, Jason Stailey, Kristen (Theo) Spilman, Matthew (Erin) Brewer, Zach Brewer, Emily (Sam) Bartlett, Dillon Brewer and Analise Brewer; eleven great-grandchildren: Colton and Tristan Henry, Mason and Jacey Stailey, Louis, Reuben and Desmond Spilman, Lydia and Nathan Brewer, Hudson and Hailey Bartlett; two sisters: Juanita Bailey and Joyce Sells; sister-in-law Sydney Brewer and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Brewer and granddaughter, Katlyn Brewer.
Jim graduated from Williamsville High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for the original Marine Bank for 38 years, retiring in 1995 as a Purchasing Officer. He was a devoted Christian and member of West Side Christian Church, holding many leadership positions including Deacon, Elder, Youth Sponsor, Christian Elementary School Board Member and LSCA camp board member. He was also an active member of the TNT Sunday school class and the Faithful Men's Choir.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, which included many hours watching their games and events or sharing his snickers candy bars and smarties with them. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed visiting Busch Stadium.
He also enjoyed woodworking, drawing pictures for his grandchildren and spending time outside doing yard work. He was well known for his sense of humor and his smile that would light up a room.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at West Side Christian Church 2850 Cider Mill Ln. Springfield, IL. 62702
Funeral will be held Friday, April 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at West Side Christian Church with Mike Harney officiating. A burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.
