

James E. Williams, Sr., 97, of Springfield, left these earthly bounds, on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Born June 15, 1921 in Lincoln, the son of James M. and Marie Noonan Williams. He married Carol Virginia Rohrer August 14, 1948; and both Virginia and his brother, Robert Williams have preceded him in death. James proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II in the Pacific Theater and received the Good Conduct, American Theater, and Philippines Liberation medals and two Bronze Stars. James worked for Allis Chalmers as a chemist for forty years and later for the Illinois State Police in Forensic Science. His hobbies included building houses and wood working. He built twelve homes in Springfield during his lifetime including his own house. He is survived by two sons, James E. Williams (Kent) of San Francisco, CA and Roger (Rita) Williams of Springfield; daughter, Carol (John) Hanrahan of Laguna Hills, CA; five grandchildren, Christine, Heather, John, Virginia and Elizabeth; 2 great grandchildren, Roland and John; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Church of St. Jude, 633 S. Walnut, Rochester with Rev. Brian Alford, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
