

Janet Gorman, 81, of Chatham, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. John�s Hospice, Springfield, IL. She was born September 5, 1934, in Pekin, Illinois to J. Arthur and S. Hazel Fickle Jones. Janet was the valedictorian of her high school class in Bradford, Illinois. On August 2, 1958 she married James Edward Gorman in Bradford, IL. She is survived by her sons Michael, Springfield; Patrick (Catherine), Carmel, IN; and Timothy, Ballwin, MO. Her life was blessed by six grandchildren, Jake, Mary and Terrence and Joe, Joshua and Jackson. Janet graduated from the University of Illinois in 1956, with a degree in Elementary Education; she was elected as a member of the Mortar Board Academic Honorary Society and Zeta Tau Alpha Social Sorority. She taught in Elmhurst, IL and Girard, IL for several years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and Junior Women�s Club. Mrs. Gorman served as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts. Janet held a membership in the G.V. Black Dental Auxiliary; her husband, Dr. James Gorman served as a dentist in Girard for 49 years. After moving to Chatham in 1977, Mrs. Gorman was a substitute teacher for many years for the Ball-Chatham School District. She and her husband were active members of Glenwood Athletic Boosters, the Gridiron Club and Band Boosters. Janet was active in bridge clubs in Girard and Springfield. Visitation: Janet�s family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Friday, March 11, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Additional visitation will be held from 10am until the time of the Funeral ceremony at 11am, Saturday, March 12, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, with Paula Staab Polk as Funeral Celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
