

Jean was born on November 28, 1931, in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Vester and Vesta Eastridge Hamm. She married Gayle E. Lane on September 2, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2009.
Jean was a Charter member of Hope Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and worked a few years for the Chatham School District. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Elks Club and was involved with the Ladies Lunch Group. Jean was the former president of Wives of Illinois Highway Engineers Association (WIHEAS). She was involved in couples bridge with her husband as well as women’s bridge. Gayle and Jean loved dancing, particularly at weddings and anniversary celebrations. Jean and Gayle loved to travel around the U.S. and the world, particularly to Australia and Alaska. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Her family and friends will long remember Jean for her laughter and sense of humor. She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her sons, Gayle “Butch” Lane, Jr. of Normal, and Gary (Lisa) Lane of Loami; daughters, Vicki (Michael) Economopoulos of Witts Spring, AR, Terri (Michael) Crabtree of Newnan, GA; and Pamela Glodney of Chatham; grandchildren, Carrie (Steve Gekas) Bradley, Amanda (James) Krell-Sanders, Scott (Erica) Crabtree, Amber Bucy, Brian Crabtree, Hayley Lane, and Cory Lane; great-grandchildren, Brenna, Maxie, Ava, Ellie, Kennedy, Brody, Garrett, Grayson, Elizabeth, and Annabelle; brother, Lowell Hamm of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Barbara Davis of Lebanon, OH; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Dylan Hamm, Irene Carter, Verliss Lyon, Denver Hamm, Ervell Hamm, and Carol Byrd.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 State Rte. 4, Chatham. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chuck Goodman officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings.
A private family burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
