

Jennie E. Kern, 88, of Springfield, formerly of the Farmingdale area, passed away Wednesday November 17, 2010 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
She was born in Boulder, CO., May 13, 1922 the daughter of James and Jennie McCutchen Ballard. Her parents, a son, Ken Kern, her sister, Cynthia, and her brother Edward Ballard preceded her in death. She married Paul Kern in Springfield in 1947. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. He survives.
Also surviving are her daughter, Alice Kern of Springfield, her sons; Jim (wife Nadine) Kern, of Nebraska, John of New York, and Tom (wife Jan) Kern of California, her grandchildren, Kevin, Corey, Katie of Nebraska, Sarah of California, Danny (wife Marci) of Oregon, her nieces; Kathy Council and Chris Council, Jennie Van Schyndel all of Springfield, Cindy Lammert of Champaign, her nephew, Steve Council of Springfield, and her sister-in-law Shirley Ballard of Springfield.
Jennie worked for Franklin Life in Springfield before becoming a full time mother. She lived in the Farmingdale area for 54 years where she and her family enjoyed all the wonderful neighbors.
She was a very active member of Westside Christian Church, and her Sunday school class the Beau Knots. She enjoyed working with children. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Jennie loved reading, and playing the piano, especially the older hymns, which she knew by memory. She continued to share this talent even when she moved to Concordia Village this fall. Jennie remained strong and happy in her faith in Jesus and her love for others all the way through her health battles these past two months.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. where visitation will be Saturday November 20, 2010 from 9:00 am until time of services there at 10:30 am Saturday. Rev. Gary Winkleman will officiate. Burial will follow in Farmington Cemetery, Farmingdale, IL.
