

Jesse E. "Ted" Davis, 87, of Riverton, passed away Saturday February 12, 2011 at St. John's Hospice.
He was born February 21, 1923 in Seymour, IL the son of William H. and Nettie C. Latham Davis. He graduated from Lerna High School in 1941. He proudly served in the United States Navy during W.W. II. He married Doris E. Evans in Henderson, KY, July 31, 1948 and she survives.
Ted is also survived by his two daughters; Kayla (Gerald) Meyer of Clever, MO, and Sue Ann (Ray) Carrion of Staunton, IL, his son; John (Kay) Davis of Springfield, five grandchildren; David (Stefanie) Carrion, Josh (Mary) Barbiera, Shanna (Shawn) McMasters, Georganne Crifasi, and Joe Crifasi, four great grandchildren, his sister, Becky (Howard) Tingley of Mattoon, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Jay and Clyde Davis, and an infant sister, Georgia Mae.
Ted was a member of the Riverton United Methodist Church for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Riverton- Lavely Lodge #786 AF&AM, a member of the Lions Club and volunteered on the Riverton Fire and Rescue.
He retired in 1984 from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad where he served as an Agent Operator for 43 years. Ted enjoyed going to Flea Markets. He would help anyone, regardless of their need. He could fix just about anything, and he especially enjoyed working on small engines and restoring lawn mowers. He was great husband, father, grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL where a mosonic service conducted by the Riverton-Lavely Lodge # 786 AF&AM will begin at 11:00 am Thursday February 17, 2011 with visitation following until time of funeral services there at 1:00 pm Thursday. Rev. Jonathan Dixon will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
In lieu of flowers, those that wish may direct memorial contributions to the Riverton United Methodist Church, the Riverton Fire and Rescue, or St. John's Hospice.
