

Joan Marie Ramirez, 86, of Springfield, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at 3:48 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at her home. Joan was born November 2, 1931 in Princeton, IL, the daughter of Harold T. and Marie R. West Halberg. She married Manuel L. Ramirez on May 31, 1952 in Springfield; he preceded her in death on November 12, 1994. Joan graduated from Lanphier High School in 1949 and was employed as an insurance claims clerk with Lanphier & Webster Co. Insurance. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church and was active with the low-vision group at the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind. Joan enjoyed being with her family, listening to music, shopping, holidays, reading, and playing Bunco. Family was of utmost importance to Joan. She was a true matriarch and showed her love in many ways, including remembering everyones birthdays, anniversaries and special events. She will be deeply missed by her family and will be remembered as "the best." She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Randy (wife, Cindy) Ramirez of Springfield, Roger (wife, Kitty) Ramirez of Springfield, Rick (wife, Maureen) Ramirez of Clearwater, FL, Jeanne (husband, Michael) Ramirez-Petruzates of Morton, IL, Robert Ramirez of Springfield, Ronald Ramirez of Springfield, and Christopher Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald Halberg and Karen (husband, Bill) McFarland, both of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Sandi Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
