

He was born in Springfield on September 14, 1945, the son of Clyde A. and Mildred (Sturdy) Fitch. John married Patricia Mooberry in Springfield on February 18, 1983.
John was a truck driver for ten years in Massachusetts and later retired from CWLP after almost 30 years as a materials handler. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1965-1969. He also belonged to SDMC and VFW Post 755. In his spare time, John enjoyed solving puzzles, painting, and attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sue Mielkaitis; and brother, Bill Fitch.
He is survived by his wife, Patti; son, David (Gina) Fitch; daughters, Michele Fitch, Gretchen (Jim) Gibbs, Maureen (Ryan) Link, and Marissa Fitch; grandchildren, Jared and James Fitch, Cael, Christopher, Margaret, and Eleanor Link, Macallan, Rourke and Mattingly Gibbs, and Avery and Colby Dean; sister, Dianna (Michael) Donaker; sister-in-law, Barbara Fitch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, until the time of the Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided.
Memorial contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
