

John William "Bill" Green, Sr., 79, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on June 9, 1929 in Springfield, the son of John Warren and Ida Mae Combs Green. He married Betty Delores Barlow on February 26, 1949 in Springfield. Bill worked in the auto body shop for the Fenstermaker family for many years. He enjoyed going to casinos, bowling, travelling, and rooting for his favorite team, the Cubs. Bill will be remembered as a fun and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. Preceding Bill in death are his parents; his son, Darryll Green; his grandsons, John William Green III and Austin Green; and his siblings, Russell Green, Harry Junior Green, Dorothy Morrell, Maxine Monier and Lucille Collard; and four half sisters and four half brothers. He is survived by his wife, Betty D. Green of Springfield; his children, John (wife, Phyllis) Green, Jr., Yvonne (husband, Carl) DeFrates, Cindy (husband, Gary) Bramblett, Sheila (fianc, Charles Connor) Estes, Randy (wife, Jo) Green, Valorie Hanshaw, all of Springfield, and Shawn (husband, Jim) Thompson of Loami; seventeen grandchildren, including his four Angels; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
