

John G. "Jack" Kirchgesner, 92, of Chatham, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Jack was born January 9, 1923 in Springfield, the son of John G. and Elizabeth Harbauer Kirchgesner. He married Alberta Armstrong at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in 1946. Jack was a 1941 graduate of Cathedral Boys High School. He worked at Sangamo Electric for 36 years and DICKEY-john for 10 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He enjoyed Boy Scouting, wood crafting, and built his home. Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 4175. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles; and sister, Sr. Angela, OSU. He is survived by his wife, Alberta of Chatham; children, Patricia (John) Kienzler, Catherine (Jerome) Bauman, John (Marilyn), all of Springfield, Dennis (Chris) of Riverton, Kevin of Rushville, Gregory (Carol) of Auburn, and Robert (Lilly) of San Jose, CA; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Joann) of Havana; and brother-in-law, John Michael Armstrong of Downers Grove. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 700 E. Spruce St., Chatham, with Father John Nolan, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
