Many of my memories of John are from the Jesus Movement years back in early 70s.  His love for Jesus and his commitment to Him never wavered - he was a devoted man of God.   I saw a tender loving heart and a sweet spirit in John.  We will all miss him a great deal.  Although our hearts hurt, they also rejoice with him because we know he is standing in the presence of our Lord - face to face at this very moment.  My love and prayers to Janette and family. It is always hard to find the words for things like this.  I have known the Kusturin family for over 30 years but when I think about John I still feel like a teenager that’s about to get into trouble for something.   No matter the situation John always could find something to laugh about.  He could yell at me and laugh at me or about me at the same time.  There wasn’t a lot that could keep him down.  I will always remember him fondly. My condolences to the family. May John’s memory be a blessing and comfort.

What a sweetheart of a guy that I remember.  It has been such a long time since I had seen John, since years and miles parted us.  I remember John as a jovial guy who had a heart for God.  He was a family man with a lovely wife, Janette, and children.  He only lived a few blocks away from our church, the New Life Worship Church on Sangamon Avenue in Springfield.  He could often be found out back behind the church, fishing in "Lake Bethel".  Kathleen and I want to express our condolences to Janette and the whole family.  Our hearts are saddened for a time, but know that one day we will meet again when Christ returns with the trumpet call of God, bringing with him those who have fallen asleep in him.  (1 Thes 4:13-18)

John and I were high school buddies. We shared a big interest in playing guitars. After high school we parted ways as a lot of people do but when I would bump into him from time to time we always shared a laugh.  Many great memories...Sad to hear of his passing.

So sad to hear of Johns passing. Having worked alongside John for so many years at the SJR he often talked of his family. He was a hard worker and a kind man. He will surely be missed. Condolences, Dino Dinora

John was my hunting and fishing buddy for years.  I could go to his house at 4am to go hunting.  We spent many a fall and winter day hunting rabbits and squirrels. He'll be missed.

We shared a lot of good memories for 33 years. He has earned his reward and he is now with the Lord.
