Born August 31, 1951 in Springfield, Illinois to John and Jean Merano, John leaves his son, Michael, Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Elijah Stephens-Merano, Springfield and Londyn Fleming, Quincy, IL; brother Ted (Patricia) Merano, Springfield, IL; sister Barbara (Tom) Pronk of Coralville, IA; sister-in-law, Michele Sweeney, Moline IL; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Mary Ann, his parents, John and Jean, and sisters and brother-in-law, Katie Sweeney Jones, Sharon Sweeney, and John Sweeney.
John graduated from Springfield Southeast High School in 1969 and later from Southern Illinois University. Following college, he began working in social services. In keeping with his easy-going personality, he was later employed as an exceptional server at Baur’s Restaurant and Maldaner’s Restaurant and worked as a realtor for Charles Robbins Real Estate in Springfield.
Together, John and Mary Ann loved wonderful dinners out, great wine and music, and the company of many friends who describe John as calm, caring, and steady in life. The biggest accomplishment and joy for both John and Mary Ann was the addition of Michael to their family. He, and later their grandson Elijah, brought them immeasurable joy. John was the father and grandfather extraordinaire, helping Michael in caring for Elijah-his best buddy.
A Celebration of Life for both John and Mary Ann will be held at a later date.
