I was shocked and saddened today to learn, thru one of Johnna's Uncles, Steve Smith, of her passing. I have thought about her often and hoped she was doing well. It's never a right time to lose a loved one, but we can only be thankful that she is certainly in a better place and free from all pain and further discomfort. In reading all the wonderful memories of her, you can certainly take comfort that her bubbly and effervescent disposition is a direct tribute to her rearing and heritage.  I can see that she was truly a chip off her parent's block.  May the grace of God be with you at this time and in the hard days ahead.  My ears are available when you need to talk.

Quite some time ago, I had the privilege of caring for Johnna as her home health nurse.  She made such an amazing impact on me.  Her spirit and joy will forever be held in my heart.  She was truly an angel on earth and a blessing to all whose lives she touched.  My condolences to her family, and especially her mom who I know loved her beyond measure. I am so blessed to have been able to care for Johnna and to not only be her nurse but her friend. I hope you all are able to find peace in knowing that Johnna has touched so many lives including mine and she will forever be cherished in my heart. I had the pleasure of being a classmate of Johnna and was immediately impressed by her intellect, openness, energy, and generosity.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

I have not seen Johnna since High school but the same positive energy she omitted in HS still shows in all the pictures I have seen of her. I was honored enough to get to know Johnna as one of my students in the graduate program at UIS. She always inspired such great dialogue in the classroom and brought such a bright light to her work and to those around her. So smart, articulate & engaging! This earthly world will truly miss her! To all of Johnna's family I am truly sorry for your loss.  She was quite the charater, with her laugh, smile, and sense of humor, she was a bright light in a room, made everyone laugh & smile!! She will be watching over all her god-children & family for sure.  She truly was an ANGEL!  She will be greatly missed, but kept in our hearts.

Maybe about 4-8 weeks ago, my husband, daughter, and I went to Steak n Shake for dinner.  While we were eating, in walked a young women.  She was with 2 other ladies and a young child. They were all in such a good mood.  I over heard conversation with the waitress that they were out wedding shopping and that the wedding was coming up very quickly. The young women had a head cover on.  After dealing with my mother in law having cancer I knew probably why that head cover was there.  Then she removed the head cover.  She was beautiful.  She had such a contagious smile and such a glow about her. I could not help but keep looking at the young lady. I myself had thyroid cancer and I sat there wondering to myself why someone so precious had to suffer so much.  I left that evening praying and hoping that whatever that young lady was dealing with, she would get better.

Today I learned your name, Johnna Hood.  

I have never met or spoken to you but today, I shed tears for you.  I could tell that you were such a happy young lady and full of positive energy.  You had a sparkle in your eyes and thru your eyes I could tell you were so full of life and love.  I am sorry that you had to leave this earth so quickly.  As I teach my daughter, God needs us for something more important.  I have no doubt that with your energy and glow you made sure that there were no regrets left behind.  I pray for the pain that your family has to deal with at this time, but thru your positive energy, they will make it.  I am truly sorry that we never got to meet but please know that you touched my heart without even knowing me.  I am sure I am not the only one in this world.  One day we shall meet but until then Rest In Peace.

I'm so happy to have gotten to know Johnna, CJ and their entire family. Johnna was such a great person to care for and I'm glad I was able to be one of her nurses.  She was always so sweet and easy going and we always enjoyed having "normal" conversations with one another.  You were quite a fighter, Johnna, but I have comfort in knowing you are in a better place and that we have another "angel" to look over us. I wish you could still be with us, but obviously that isn't meant to be. I think of you often, still, and want to thank you for being such a great role model. You are sadly missed...

The last time I saw Johnna was at our 10 year high school reunion.  She had been battling cancer for awhile then but was so upbeat and positive, just like she had always been!  It was the one and only time my husband had met her and she really left a great impression on him.  It is just a true testiment on how great a person Johnna was.  She didn't know a stranger and always had a smile on her face.  She will be greatly missed but our memories will last forever.

Praying for comfort as you navigate through this difficult time of transition.  You can be proud of the favorable impressions and footprints Johnna left here on earth!  Love and peace to your family!

I have so much to say but all that I can really get out is that I am so very sorry for your loss.  Johnna was an amazing person. There was never a moment she wasn't smiling, and was it sure contagious.  Her laugh still rings in my ears and when I hear it, I laugh.  When I think of her smile, I smile.  You are all in my prayers.

While in High School, I rembembered Johnna as a happy and energetic person.  She was always there for her friends whenever they needed her.  When I heard that she had cancer I was heartbroken and went online and spoke to her for a good hour.  During the conversation, she was always positive.  I will truly miss Johnna, but I know she is in a better place where she is not suffering.  From all of the class of 1998 and myself are all saddened and wish Johnna's family the very best. I am very saddened to hear of Johnna's death. I've been her professor and chair of her thesis now for several years. She was amazingly bright and I had looked forward to her entering a PhD program, as she had said was her interest. She would have made an excellent professor. She was extremely knowledgable.

I never knew anyone who could laugh so much or so contagiously. You filled everyone around you with warmth, caring and joy. You were there for me during a turning point in my life and your wise advice helped guide me through many tough decisions. Selfishly, my heart aches when I think about not having you here with me. In reality, I know you are in a much better place and with Someone who loves you even more than those of us left behind. Your courage and joyful spirit is a tribute to your faith and yet another way you have inspired me and others lucky enough to call you friend.

So sad to see this news this morning.  Johnna was one of my favorite students at Waverly.  I will always remember her pink glasses (to distinguish her from her twin), yet after only knowing the girls a few days their individual personalities made them distinct.  I can only imagine Kara's and the family's loss and send my thoughts and prayers to them all.

I met Johnna my very first day of grad school in my first class at UIS; it was one of many we would have together.  I am very sad to hear of her passing.  She was extremely intelligent and caring, and she would always tell the best stories and give the most entertaining presentations.  My thoughts are with her family.

My heart hurts for Johnna's family. I went to grad school with Johnna and she was probably one of the smartest young women I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. We kept in contact over the years and will greatly miss our "Top 5" conversations.
