Jonathan was born March 28, 1984, in Springfield. He was the son of Donna Hutcheson-Pettijohn (stepfather, John Pettijohn) and Doug Hutcheson (stepmother, Sissy).
Jonathan was born with cerebral palsy. In his younger years, he loved swimming! He traveled with his family everywhere. When he was three his parents carried him up a mountain to see the waterfalls at Burgess Falls, TN. He enjoyed riding in his dad’s boat and camping. He also was in the backseat of an impromptu drag race in downtown Springfield at age four during a national car show. When he was 9, he took a trip to The Great Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed riding the tram in Gatlinburg, TN to the top of the mountain. At 15, he took a trip to the Pacific Northwest and rode the ferry across Puget Sound. Along the way, he visited Mt. Rushmore, Glacier National Park, and Little BigHorn Battlefield. He enjoyed the St. Louis Zoo, Science Center, and the St. Louis Arch. He loved the Tilt-A-Whirl, Giant Slide, and the now defunct Train in Adventure Village at the Illinois State Fair. Each set of parents would buy numerous tickets for him so he could ride for an hour!!! He also enjoyed all the Animal Barns!
In his late teens, he started developing medical issues that kept him homebound until he passed. His mother and stepfather had been his primary caretakers for the last 20 years. He loved watching The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and everything on Game Show Network! He loved ESPN's Steven A. and Pat McAfee and pretty much everything ESPN. Every summer, he couldn't wait for Wimbeldon to start! He, along with his brother, Andrew, were huge Chicago Bears and Cubs fans. Jonathan had a seizure and died while watching the Cubs. He flew off to Wrigley Field, like in the movie "Angels in the Outfield". He helped the Cubs beat the Guardians 5-4. His parents and brother find great solace in that. He loved all music from classical to 80's Hair Bands, Taylor Swift, Pink, Doobie Brother, Santanna, and Journey, just to name a few. His most recent favorite song was Pink Pony Club with his mom singing at the top of her lungs and dancing with him. We always made comments that he could "name that tune" in one note!!! This also included the first two lines of music for any movie. The minute he heard the music he knew what movie was starting. Everyone who knew him loved him. He had a great sense of humor. He was an amazing person. His smile and laugh would bring joy to all!
Besides both sets of parents, he is survived by his brothers, Andrew Hutcheson and Joseph O'Shea; his best friends, Linda Deluhery, Chawna and Mike Miller; god-niece, Savanna; one set of grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
