
Joseph Solomon, 72, of Uvalde, TX, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 in Uvalde, TX. Joseph was born November 8, 1932 in Springfield the son of George and Imelda Solomon. Mr. Solomon graduated from Illinois State University, Normal with a Bachelor’s of Science. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict where he received a good conduct medal and went through instructor school. He went on to teach and coach basketball at St. Mary’s in Metamora where he took his team to win the 8th grade Woodford County Championship. He went on to teach at several other schools including at the junior high school in Washington, IL and Griffin High School in Springfield. Joseph moved to Uvalde, TX in 1981 where he taught 7th Grade Math at the junior high school until his retirement. After retiring he continued to teach at the junior high school part time and also taught in the computer lab at the Southwest Texas Junior College. He was currently the assistant coach for the girl’s basketball team at South West Texas Junior College where he also . He was a member of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Uvalde, TX where he also tutored at the school. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Solomon He is survived by two sons, Michael (wife, Kathy) Solomon of Normal, IL and David Solomon of SC; two daughters, Catherine Queen of Bloomington and Jolene (husband, Doug) Hart of Normal; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters, Mary Solomon, Frances Solomon and Rose Hall all of Kerrville, TX and Veronica Sigurdson of Eau Claire, WI; one brother, John Solomon of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The family of Joseph Solomon is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
