

Joseph L. Stannard, 82, of Springfield, died at 8:30 pm, January 1, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. Mr. Stannard was born October 23, 1922 in Bloomington, IL, the son of Dr. Joseph Bryon and Mary Marcella Lyons Stannard. He married Virginia Johnson December 29, 1951 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Stannard graduated from the Illinois Wesleyan University and Lincoln College of Law. He served in the Navy and the Navy Air Corps during WWII. He worked for the State of IL as a Trust Auditor and retired in 1984. He also worked for 1st National Bank for years and set up the Trust Department for Capitol Bank. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Griffin Assembly, Theta Chi Fraternity and Illinois Wesleyan University Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife Virginia Stannard of Springfield; sons: Joseph L. II (wife, Sandy) and Michael (wife, Dodie) Stannard both of Springfield; daughters Virginia (husband, Terry) McConnell, Joan P. Stannard and Helen M. Stannard All of Springfield; sister Mary Jane Bonick of Olympia Fields, IL; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 4, 2005 from 4-7:00 pm at Kirlin -Egan and Butler Funeral Home. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. David Hoefler celebrant.
