

Joseph W. Yanor, age 83, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Joseph was born on September 6, 1918 the son of Benny and Antoinne Rogers Yanor in Springfield. He married Monica Lee Susinkas on October 29, 1946 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on June 8, 1999. Mr. Yanor was employed at Capitol Tool and Design as a craftsman tool and die maker. He had also been employed as a coal miner. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War, National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans and a past member of the Lithuanian American Club. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran receiving one service stripe, 4 overseas service bars, the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle East Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica, parents, one brother, Bernie and one sister, Josephine Stankevitch. He is survived by one son; Ron (wife, Faith) Yanor of Chatham; two grandchildren: Adam and Max Yanor; one sister: Ann Carver of Springfield and one niece. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2002. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Schmidt and Reverend Don Peck officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Inteveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
