

Kevin L. McCarthy, 69, of Springfield, passed away at 11:35 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2003 at his residence. Kevin was born August 27, 1933 in Springfield, the son of John Raymond and Mildred Fernandes McCarthy. He married Patricia Frantz September 15, 1962 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mr. McCarthy was employed for 27 years with the Springfield Fire Department where he served as Division I-D, performing various Deputy Division Chief duties, served as Pre-plan Coordinator during the period of time that the Fire Department achieved a Class I rating, he was also a Representative of the Springfield Fire Department in the Trades and Labor Organization for ten years. He successfully completed and passed the Firefighters II Exam in 1974 and the Firefighters III Exam in 1976. Mr. McCarthy was a bricklayer and a member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers Local #4 for 25 years and also farmed in Sherman and Franklin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 attending the U.S. Army Engineers School in Germany in 1954. Mr. McCarthy was a lifetime member of the VFW, past member of the Elks Club, member of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau and of Christ the King Parrish. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Pat of Springfield, two daughters: Kimberlee McCarthy of Springfield, Kristina (husband, Matthew) Maurer of Springfield; two sons: Kevin (wife, Rhonda) McCarthy of Springfield, Kyle McCarthy of Hong Kong; two grandchildren, Shad and Jenna; one sister: Joanne Crumly of Springfield; one brother: John “Jack” (wife, Jeanne) McCarthy of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2003. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Christ the King Catholic Church with principal celebrant Reverend Chris House and co-celebrant Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrants. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
