

Laura Brimm Black, 51, of Chatham, passed away peacefully, April 20, 2016 with her family at her side. She was born April 21, 1964, in Springfield, to Gene and Sue Lockard Brimm. Laura married Reginald Black September 17, 1994. Laura was a very loving person and was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was always thinking of others, remembering them with little notes and gifts. She was a volunteer at United Cerebral Palsy and an active member of Chatham Presbyterian Church. Laura used her culinary skills to bake and cook for Church functions; enjoyed decorating the church for Christmas; was active with First Place for Health and Trunk or Treat for Halloween. Laura earned her Master�s degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago in social work. She was a LCSW in private practice for many years and EAP (Employee Assistance Program) Coordinator for various state universities. Laura worked for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services as a Disability Adjudicator for ten years. Laura loved flowers and decorating her home. She was an avid shopper and was known for her cooking skills. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Reggie; daughters, Hannah and Haleigh; parents, Gene and Sue of Springfield, IL; brother, Allen (Terri) Brimm of Wimberly, TX; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Linda McCandless of Springfield, sister-in-law Diane (Larry) Tebrugge of Springfield, and brother-in-law, Tom Black of Springfield; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, including Kellie Holmin, Mendy Riddle, Molly Cottone, and Tammy Davis; pet companion Shih Tzu, Roxie. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham, before services. A Celebration of Laura�s life will be held Monday, April 25. Her family will greet friends from 9:30am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30am at Chatham Presbyterian Church, 1835 East Walnut Street, Chatham, IL, 62629 with Rev. Jim Reitz officiating. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Inheritance of Hope, PO Box 90, Pisgah Forest, NC, 28768; www.InheritanceOfHope.org. Inheritance of Hope serves young families facing the loss of a parent. Its signature offering is the Legacy Retreat�, an all-expense paid experience where Laura�s family created a lifelong memory at Disney World and received tools to navigate the challenges of terminal illness. Reggie and Haleigh will serve as volunteers to the program helping other families. Staab Polk Memorial Home,8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham, is serving Laura�s family.
