

Lawrence Edward Jennings, 75, of Springfield, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2003 at St. John’s Hospice. Lawrence was born April 18, 1928 in Brownsville, TX the son of Thomas Hill and Marian Jennings. He married Marilyn Brunk December 17, 1957, they later divorced. Mr. Jennings was employed as an accountant with Illinois Department of Transportation retiring in 1988 after over 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was also a Merchant Marine, and a member of MENSA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Virginia Sterrit and one grandson: Joshua Schleyhahn. He is survived by four sons: Mark E. Jennings, Sam R. Jennings, John C. Jennings all of Springfield, Scott Jennings of Denver, CO; three daughters: Anne (husband, Kalen) Stieferman of Centertown, MO, Elizabeth Valentine of Springfield, Nancy Fuentes of Veracruz, Mexico; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters: Jacqueline McArdle of Brownsville, TX, Barbara (husband, Cletus) Solar of Raceland LA; one brother: Thomas Jennings of Brownsville, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Remains were cremated. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. The family of Lawrence Edward Jennings is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
