Leda M. Thorpe

Leda May Thorpe, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on October 23, 1930 in Logansport, Indiana to Richard W. and Verna May Williams Grassmyer. Leda married Edward E. Thorpe on July 25, 1954 in Royal Center, Indiana and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Mrs. Thorpe is survived by three sons: David E. Thorpe of Riverton, Richard E. Thorpe of Springfield, Craig A. (Diane) Thorpe of Glenarm, and one daughter Patty (Steve) Pinkley of Springfield, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother Gene Grassmyer.

Leda was a Registered Nurse at St. John’s Hospital retiring in 1989. She was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church, Cotton Hill Methodist Church, and The United Methodist Women. Leda loved the Lord and serving others, enjoyed reading, an always took delight in nature, from watching the hummingbirds to appreciating the flowers.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service.
