

Leonard "Len" Bardfield, 79, of Springfield, passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. Len was born March 5, 1939 in Boston, MA, the son of David and Mildred Gaffinowitz Bardfield. Len was a graduate of Decatur High School, later attending the University of Illinois. He proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for his father in the family business at Railroad Salvage. He also worked in building and property management in California and Oregon. Len was a member of the American Duplicate Bridge Association. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid basketball fan, and loved going to the beach and his grandsons cabin. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Fredrick Bardfield; and brother, Louis Bardfield. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Bardfield of Springfield; three children, Brian (David) Bardfield of Milwaukie, OR, Allan (Dawn) Bardfield of Decatur, and Stanley (Celia) Bardfield of Carriere, MS; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies, per Lens wishes. A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family.
