

Leroy "Davy Crockett" Morris, 88, of Springfield, died at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his home. Leroy was born September 4, 1927 in Ava, IL, the son of Ross and Millie McBride Morris. He married Mary Mifflin on August 7, 1948 in Springfield. Leroy graduated from Ava High School in 1946 and was employed for 33 years as a welder for Fiat Allis. He later raised red wiggler worms for fishing. He was a member of Abundant Faith Christian Center, coached baseball and basketball, and was a volunteer for the Big Brother Big Sister program. Leroy enjoyed fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan, but his greatest achievement was seeing his children grow up and graduate. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Morris; and four sisters, Clementine Schuester, Bernadine Frandson, Vivian Suchaman and Roma Brown. He is survived by his wife, Mary Morris of Springfield; his children, Alan (wife, Susan) Morris, James (Denise) Morris, Denise Coet, and Cinda Meneghetti; grandchildren, Loie Blackstone, Amy (Peter) Rosasco, Joshua (Chiara) Morris, Ryann (Tyson) Sands, Alex Coet, Andy (fianc, Haley) Coet, and Gianni Meneghetti; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Herb, Katie Larsen, Louis Rosasco, Matthew Rosasco, Nicole Morris, Isabelle Morris, Mason Sands, Vespyr Sands, and Willow Sands; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
