

Lloyd Earl Smith, 74, of Sherman, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Lloyd was born April 15, 1940 in Colmar, IL, the son of Ermil Newman and Mable Louise Roberts Smith. He married Shirley Louise Brillhart on November 19, 1961 in Colmar, IL. Lloyd was a graduate of Plymouth High School. He had attended LLCS and earned his welding and electrician certification. He also attended Texaco Training. He was previously a certified mechanic for Texaco and then was employed by FS (later Growmark) for 30 years until the plant closed, then worked at Big R in Springfield for 12 years. Lloyd was a member of Aqua Sports Club and American Legion in Peoria. He was a Grain Millers Union Steward/President/Secretary, a proud supporter of the FFA, and an accomplished bowler. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping, bowling, hunting, motorcycle trips, and was a Cubs and Illini fan. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado and Canada, and had visited 45 states with his family. Lloyd was known for being a hard-working man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lyle E. Smith, Larry N. Smith, and Kenny L. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Smith of Sherman; three daughters, Lori Smith of Springfield, Sandy (husband, Randy) Petersen of Normal, IL, and Stacy (husband, John) Saladino of Sherman; four grandchildren, Coltin and Amy Saladino of Sherman, and Abby and Kayla Petersen of Normal; one brother, D. Randy (wife, Collette) Smith of Plymouth, IL; his beloved dog, Tiki; honorary grandson, Drew Sheehan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Curt Daniel, officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
