She was born on June 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Weddle) Standering. She married William Burke and he preceded in death.
She worked as an executive secretary for the Illinois Automobile Dealers’ Association, and had also worked for the Illinois Secretary of State. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Lois enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini. She also enjoyed reading. She was an avid bowler for years. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She will be missed, but still dearly loved.
She is survived by her step-daughter JoAnn Waite of Tovey, IL; 2 grandchildren, Becky Marten and Lee (wife Tricia) Waite; 2 great-grandchildren, Devin Marten and Hunter Marten; her nephew Kirk (wife Laurie) Riva of Springfield; her niece Billie Sue Cross of Lincoln, IL; 3 great-nephews, Derek Betzer, Matt Cross, and Jonathon Cross; 2 great-nieces, Melissa Suchy and Erica Brittin; and other extended family.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Evelyn Grauer, Josephine Buschon, and Dorthy Riva.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 1 pm. Rev. Dr. Roger Grimmett will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pawnee, IL.
