

Louise Jacqueline Schafer Tobin, 75, of Manhattan, New York, formerly of Springfield, IL, died at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY. Louise was born on August 6, 1930 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Ernest and Louise (Amrhein) Schafer. She married David Jerome Tobin of Springfield at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was blessed with a strong, loving marriage. He preceded her in death in 1974. She graduated in 1952 from National College of Education in Evanston, IL with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was employed as a nursery school teacher for many years. She was of the Roman Catholic faith and lived in New York for the last two years. Louise was a loving mother, raising her children in the Boston area. She organized her life around the Church, prayer groups and children, and enjoyed big, noisy gatherings of family and friends. She was also preceded in death by one daughter: Catherine Louise Tobin and one son: Philip Edward Tobin; two brothers: Joseph and Robert Schafer; two sisters: Ernestine Schafer and Clarissa Maher and several beloved in-laws. She is survived by three sons: Thomas (wife, Amber Morgan) Tobin of New York, NY, David Jerome Tobin of Los Angeles, CA, Paul (wife, Trina) Tobin of Taylor’s Island, MD; two daughters: Nancy (husband, William) Barry of Sudbury, MA, Margaret (husband, Andrew Bishop) Tobin of New York, NY; eight grandchildren; Eva Redmer, Paul, Tyler, Chelsea and Haley Tobin all of Taylor's Island, MD, and Derek and Zenon Bishop of New York City, NY; and Charlotte Tobin of New York City, NY; one great grandchild: Jacob Redmer of Taylor's Island, MD; two sisters: Marcella Pipkin of Springfield and Margaret Link of Staunton; one brother: Richard Schafer of Naples, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament with Rev. David J. Hoefler celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
