

Margaret “Marge” Thompson, 82, of Springfield, died at 10:36 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at her residence. She was born on August 18, 1923 in Springfield, the daughter of William J. and Anna D. Andolsek Kleban, Sr. She married William P. Thompson in 1947; he preceded her in death on February 1, 1987. Marge graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1942. She enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1943 where she served for two years at the Naval Annex in Washington, D.C. and in the Springfield Mary Todd Lincoln Wave Platoon. She achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class and the authorization to wear the American Campaign ribbon and the World War II Victory ribbon. She was the school secretary at Lincoln School for nineteen years and Pleasant Hill School for fourteen years. She retired after thirty-years of service with Springfield School District #186. Marge was very active in the Springfield community. She volunteered at Harvard Park helping children to learn how to read. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was also a member of Ursuline Academy Alumni, Privilege First, Five Star Club and AFSCME Retiree Program. Marge was a caring, loving and giving lady with a big heart. She will be remembered for her love of children and the love she gave to her family and friends. She is survived by one daughter: Nancy L. Thompson of Springfield; one son: William P. (wife, Vicki) Thompson, III; one sister: Viva L. (husband, Edward) Golladay. all of Springfield; two brothers: Walter C. Kleban of Springfield and William J. Kleban, Jr. of Riverton; four grand-children: Christina Johnson, Stacy Thompson, Stephanie Reeves and Shawn Robert Hamilton; three great-grandchildren: Zachery and Amber McCrary and Joshua Johnson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
