Marilyn Ann Tate

Marilyn Ann Tate, 83, of Springfield, died peacefully at 6:30 a.m. on July 1, 2014 in her home. She was born on September 23, 1930 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of James Edward and Agnes Rothford Meers. She married William "Bill" F. Tate on January 2, 1954; he preceded her in death on January 25, 2000. Marilyn grew up in Springfield, Illinois and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She assisted her husband, Bill, in the successful insurance firm of Bernard-Hatfield-Tate Agency, affiliated with R.W. Troxell. Marilyn had a joy for life and volunteered for numerous non-profit organizations. She was an active board member for NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) and the Association of Helping Hands of Springfield. Marilyn was an avid supporter of the Sacred Heart-Griffin Alumni Association and the Annual Mostaccioli Dinner. Marilyn also had a zest for life; she loved and entertained her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the community. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her son, Theodore William Tate (August 7, 1954 - June 12, 1964.) She is survived by her children, Paul C. Tate of Wheeling, IL, James E. Tate of Springfield, and Keri M. (husband, Patrick Finnigan) Tate of Portola Valley, CA; daughter-in-law, Debra A. Tate of Springfield; grandchildren, Tara (husband, Tim) Geving of Springfield and Christopher Tate of Auburn; great-grandchildren, Jackson and August Geving; sister, Lenore (husband, Conrad) Rourke of Georgetown, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
