

Mark was born February 5th, 1943 in Kansas City, MO, the son of John and Vera Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jay, and sister Vera Kaye Baker.
Mark married Janna Witten, March 10, 1984 in Valparaiso, IN and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters: Kelly (Greg) Zullig, Katie and Jenny; two sons: Mark (Rebecca) and Michael (Michelle); four grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, Cole and Micah, brothers: Scott (Sherry), Mike and Greg (Megan); and sisters: Carolyn (Bill) Dewey, Nancy (Al) Greimann, and Peggy (Carl) Houchins and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mark graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City in 1961. He earned a degree in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Missouri, Rolla class of 1968 where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He worked many years in the steel and glass industry and retired from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Mark was an avid gardener, fisherman, nature enthusiast, golfer and all-around-good cook. He loved spending time outdoors, on lakes and beaches in particular. Mark supported many charitable organizations and was a member of the UMR Miner Alumni Association Lincoln Land Section, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He was a very bright, humorous person and always had a joke to tell.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the 2C ICU team at Memorial Medical Center for the wonderful care, respect and dignity shown to Mark during his recent hospitalization.
The Martin family will receive friends on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield from 9:00 am - 10:15 am. A Christian Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am at the Church with Rev. Joshua T. Traxel and Rev. Dr. Wayne P. Hoffman officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Spring Street Veterans Renaissance 209 W. Scarrit Springfield, IL 62704 or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
