Marvin Earl Holmes, 85, of Auburn, IL, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. John�s Hospital. He was born April 17, 1928 in Hutsonville Township, Illinois, to the late Oakley and Barbara Ruffner Holmes. He married Wanda Irene Chipman and they moved to Auburn in 1964. He farmed in the area and owned Holmes Tavern for 22 years, retiring in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda on March 4, 2013, brother, Walter Scott Holmes, and granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Gardner. Mr. Holmes is survived by his daughter Barbara (Daniel) Weiskopf of Sherman; sons Roger (Flordeliza) Holmes, Ret. USAF of Reynolds, ND; William (Nancy) Holmes, Ret, USN, VA; W. Joseph (Diana Jean) Holmes of Riverton, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10:30am until time of funeral services at Noon, on Monday, December 16, 2013, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, with Reverend John Biedler officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor�s choice of charity.
