

Mary Bracco, age 99, of Springfield passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born on November 13, 1902 in Stigliano, Basilicata, Italy, the daughter of Franciso and Domenica Rienzi Laurenzana. She married Thomas Bracco and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1976. She retired in 1981 from the Illinois Department of Transportation where she had been employed for 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s Guild, Secular Francisean’s Order (SFO). She was also preceded in death by two sons: John and Frank Bracco, one grandson: Captain Donald E. Leckrone, Jr. in 1992, her parents, one brother and three sisters. Surviving are three daughters: Mary Michaelina “Mickey” Mounce of Portland, Oregon, Margaret Leckrone of Springfield, Therese (Norman) Shures of Ypsilanti, Michigan; four sons: Brother Thomas Bracco, SJ of Santa Clara, California, Anthony Bracco of Sherman, Joseph (Mary Margaret “Babe”) Bracco of of Springfield and Father Ted Bracco, OFM,PhD. Of Teutopolis, 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and one cousin: Reverend Don Nicole Barnabatto of Naples, Italy. Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home. A wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Church. Reverend Ted Bracco, OFM as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family of Mary Bracco is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
