
Mary Graff Cornman, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, was born May 15, 1910 and died on July 17, 2015 at the age of 105 in Manassas, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her beloved husband, William (Bill) W. Cornman, died in Springfield in 1963.
Mary attended Warrenton Country School in Virginia, Whittier College in California, and Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She earned her lifetime degree in Education from National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois, then taught in Ironwood, Michigan. In 1938 she married William (Bill) W. Cornman living in Chicago, and then Springfield, Illinois. She later moved to Tucson, Arizona where she lived for 23 years before moving to Virginia until her death.
Mary was proficient in music, and taught piano privately in Illinois and Arizona. She was active in Cub and Girl Scouts, and in many school activities.
Mary leaves her three children - Mary Anne Day (husband Jack) of Reston, Virginia, William G. Cornman (wife Connie Gekas) of Bay City, Texas, and Catherine Hill (husband Clayton) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
On Friday, July 31 at 1:00 PM Mary will be buried beside her husband after a short Episcopal grave side service in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois with Bisch and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Tournoux will officiate.
