

Born on July 23, 1931, in La Salle, IL, to James and Marian (Walsh) Kelty, Mary Jean married Charles Edward “Cap” Glisson in 1952. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, on October 7, 1999.
Mary Jean attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and was a proud graduate of Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis, MO, class of 1950. She dedicated her life to her family, raising six children as a loving homemaker. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Cap Glisson Motors, the family business, and concluded her career at the Illinois Secretary of State Vehicle Services Department, from which she retired.
Mary Jean was a lifelong member of Church of the Little Flower, volunteering her time at church, school, and for weekly adoration. Through the church, she volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels.
Above all, Mary Jean cherished time spent with her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing instant lottery tickets, and spending time on and around Lake Springfield. Her fondness for vacationing in St. Germain, Wisconsin, was a tradition she carried since childhood. Mary Jean’s warmth, generosity, and nurturing spirit created lasting bonds with family, friends, and members of her community through the Sangamo Surf Club, Powder Puff Ladies Club, and Elks Lodge. She was deeply loved and admired for her kindness, pride in her family, and her open heart, always welcoming others into her home.
Mary Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sally Glisson; son-in-law, Dave Beck; and brothers, Jim, Bill, and Tom Kelty; as well as many dear friends.
She is survived by her children, Lynda Beck, Patti (Trace) Manning, Debbie (Jim) Rushing, Charles (Martha Ann) Glisson, and Michael (Kimberly) Glisson; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr., Springfield, followed by the Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Allen Kemme, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
