She was born on October 26, 1927 in Pleasant Plains, IL, the daughter of the late John Henry and Helen (Koke) Parker. She married Lloyd M. Hughes on January 30, 1953 in Springfield and he preceded her in death.
Mary was very devoted to her family and worked several jobs that allowed her to be home when her children were. She was a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield, serving as president of the Ladies Aid there. She also taught Sunday School and was a member of Dorcas Mission Circle. She volunteered at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield and with Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her sister, Helen (husband Tom) Ealey, and her children, Sue McCullough, Manette (husband Russ) Carlstrom, Louise Hughes, Larry Hughes (companion Kernelle Henry), Patty Hughes, Cliff Hughes, and Russ (wife Jen) Hughes; a son-in-law Curt Davis (husband of Sharon Hughes Davis, who preceded her mom in death); grandchildren, C.J. McCullough, Chris (wife Chrissy) and Tim Carlstrom, Ben (wife Danielle) and Zach (wife Elizabeth) Davis, Andrew (wife Greta), Kenny (wife Ashley), and Keith Hughes (companion Kelly Lyons), Austin and Nick Freidmeyer, and Shelby, Ava, and Alaina Hughes; 7 great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Hughes Davis; and two brothers, John and Jim Parker.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield where visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 5 until 8 pm. An additional visitation will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 from 9 am until time of the funeral service at 10 am at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 West Elliott Ave., Springfield, IL. The funeral service at the church will be officiated by Rev. Dan Holland. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
