

Mary was born August 10, 1937, in Springfield, the daughter of Manfred and Frances M. Bono Prosperini. She married James W. Coffey on July 27, 1957, in Springfield; he preceded her in death on August 16, 1995.
Mary was a devout Catholic who graduated from Ursuline Academy and was employed with Illinois Bell from 1956 to 1965. She then went to work as a machinist at Pease’s Candy Factory for over 35 years. She loved her coworkers and considered them extended family. Mary loved being with her family and celebrating her traditional Italian heritage especially Sunday spaghetti dinners. She enjoyed taking rides around the lake with her grandson, Franke, taking care of the feral cats, and spending time with her dear friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Angela Coffey of Springfield; son, James “Jim” (Lynn) Coffey of Athens; grandchildren, Jessica (Hank) Jacobs, Karrie (Ben) Reese, Franke Kiddoo, and James Foxx; great-grandchildren, Tyler Jacobs, Drew Jacobs, and Morgan Reese; great-great-grandchild, Luna Jacobs; siblings, Angeline (Dale) Patterson and Armand (Barb) Prosperini, both of Springfield; uncle, Ernie Prosperini of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield, IL. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dominic Vahling, celebrant.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the ceremonies.
