

Melvin J. Horn, 89, of Jacksonville, died at 5:25 a.m. on December 16, 2009 at Barton Stone Nursing Home in Jacksonville. He was born February 28, 1920 near New Berlin, the son of Carl P. and Caroline Long Horn. Melvin was associated with Oliver Farm Equipment at Adkins Implement Co. in Prentice, IL and Narmont Machinery Co. in Auburn, IL until he retired. He had an interest in collecting miniature tools, antiques, and airplanes. Melvin was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in WWII and a life member of the New Berlin American Legion Post # 743, Jacksonville VFW Post # 379, and DAV Hal Hagler Post #15 in Springfield. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl A. and Richard F. Horn; and a sister, Dorothy Ann Clink. He is survived by his sons, Steve Horn of Jacksonville, David Horn of Franklin, Raymond Horn of S. Jacksonville, and Tom Horn of Middleton; daughters, Katherine (Gregory) Simpson of S. Jacksonville, and Sue (Steve) Hebel of Webster Groves, MO; eight grandchildren, Matt and Nick Simpson, David C. Horn and Cassie (Brian) Hoots all of Jacksonville, Danielle and Tim Hebel of Webster Groves, and Ryan and Lyndi Horn of Auburn; four great grandchildren, Alexandria Simpson, RJ Ross, and Trenton and Colton Hoots; a sister, Mary Sandberg of Redmond, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive visitors from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson, New Berlin. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Barth officiating. Burial will follow at Wood Wreath Cemetery in Island Grove with military honors by the New Berlin American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of a donor's choice.
