Merlin “Merle” Schleyhahn, 66, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at his residence. Merle was born November 14, 1939 in Springfield, the son of Castle and Jesse Siders Schleyhahn. He married Pat Tobin on April 19, 1963 in Springfield. Mr. Schleyhahn was a bricklayer for Union Local 4 and was also a self-employed bricklayer. He enjoyed Nascar, motorcycles and racing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Robert Schleyhahn. He is survived by his wife: Pat Schleyhahn of Springfield; one son: Wymond (wife, Sue) Schleyhahn of Springfield; two daughters: Kim (husband, Ron) Bitschenhauer of Springfield, and Debra Schleyhahn of Florida; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother: David (wife, Cindy) Schleyhahn of Springfield; two sisters: Lois (husband, Jim) Holderly of Girard, and Gail (husband, Don) Nowalk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Private Graveside Services will be held at Old Salem Cemetery in Gardner Township with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
